About the event

Drinks x Design: Design in History takes a creative approach to exploring the roots and pillars of Detroit Design.

Exhibitions from Detroit artists exploring Detroit history through their practice will sit alongside activations from the Detroit Historical Society and Belle Isle Conservancy.

About the venue

Located on Strand Drive on Belle Isle, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum is dedicated to showcasing the story of the Great Lakes, with a special emphasis on Detroit’s role in regional and national maritime history. Our visitors at this 16,000 square foot museum enjoy exhibits that tell more than 300 years of the region’s rich maritime history, from the shipping fleets that rule the waterways to the varied roles that the Great Lakes and the Detroit River have played in our region’s industrial and social history.

Detroit Historical Society

Since its founding in 1921, the Detroit Historical Society has been dedicated to ensuring that the history of our region is preserved so that current and future generations of metro Detroiters can better understand the people, places and events that helped shape our lives.

In 1928, our leaders founded the Detroit Historical Museum, and for the next 20 years, we operated the Museum and preserved our region’s rich history through the collection and conservation of artifacts. In 1945, we transferred ownership of the Museum and the collections to the City of Detroit and changed our focus to fundraising and marketing activities for the Detroit Historical Museum and, later, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

The Detroit Historical Society is constantly working behind the scenes to repair and maintain its immense collection of Detroit’s artifacts, including our world-class collection of more than 200 Great Lakes ship models.
